There are two types of racing angles: performance angles involve the way a horse performs prior to a winning effort and trainer angles look at how the trainer manuevers the horse to get good odds on his sharp horse.
When a horse finishes in the money (1,2, or 3) the trainer has tipped his hand that the horse is in form.
When a horse displays early speed it is indicating that it is approaching good form.
The trainer may switch distance or hike the horse in class to get the price he likes. A good handicapper always asks himself, "What is this horse doing in this race?"
