Atypical Running Lines

The four points of call in the past performance lines are also referred to as the first, pre-stretch, stretch, and the finish calls. Horse’s positions vary as the race progresses. Horses that lose position as the running line develops seldom regain it. In fact, they will probably regress. When they don’t, this is an atypical running line and may be a predictor of future substantial improvement.
